SweatersKurt Russell Is the Santa Claus of Aspen
Look at that sweater!
Earlier this month, it was announced that Kurt Russell will play the part of Santa Claus in an upcoming Netflix family film. We give our hearty cosign. The charmingly gruff 66-year-old has twinkly eyes, silvery gray hair, and can grow a beard like a champ—seriously, you’ve got to see it to believe it. And wardrobe-wise, Kurt Russell really knows how to lean into a theme, which helps. Take his choice of attire while Christmas shopping in Aspen this week: dude looked like the Westworld season two character we can’t wait to meet. In short, Kurt Russell practically is Santa Claus. He’s kind, furry, and 100% down to wear red velvet.
And while Russell’s look might be Aspen-at-Christmas specific, the individual items that make up this outfit have always been, and will always be, stylish—just like the actor himself. A Western shirt and faded blue jeans look good whether you live on a big old ranch or in a much smaller city loft. And that cardigan, yes, it’s a lot to take in, but it’s also a style move we’ve endorsed time and time again. Neutral color cashmere crewnecks are great and all, but every man should own his version of a Big Lebowski sweater—equal parts cozy and crazy—for winter ski weekends, hanging around the house, and generally being chill (see: cardigan icon Jeff Bridges in our recent shoot). As for Russell’s hat, well, we’ll let you decide if you’re cowboy enough for a Stetson. As long as you wear it with confidence like Santa here, whether you’re riding a horse or driving a minivan, you’re cool in our book.
