After the game, Gurriel, who’s from Cuba, apologized through an interpreter, saying that he “didn’t try to offend nobody… I was commenting to my family that I didn’t have any luck against Japanese pitchers here in the United States.”
The Astros beat the Dodgers 5-3, and Gurriel faces a possible suspension for his racist gesture and remark. Darvish, meanwhile, posted a very diplomatic response to Twitter.
UPDATE: Gurriel’s been suspended for five games— next season.
